NL-23-126 Junior Test Design Engineer

The qualified applicant will become part of Space Launch System (SLS) program, located in Huntsville, Alabama.
The applicant will work on site in an avionics lab.
Candidate shall update and create mechanical, electrical, electronics/computer communication and network drawings for the Avionics Integration Lab, which includes drawings for the integration of COTS Hardware (HW), and prototype or engineering SLS development HW with COTS HW to create HWIL flight equivalent test facility and Engineering Development Test Systems (EDTS).
Candidate will develop, maintain and release electrical/mechanical drawings, systems designs or engineering documentation and data in accordance with AIL Operations Plan, D201-11754-1, industry standard, ASME-Y-14.

Candidate shall design computer hardware and communication integration engineering systems to include:
simple requirements documents based on Engineering Development Test System (EDTS) design record, hardware layouts, detailed parts lists, assembly sketches, interconnect diagrams, network diagrams, and functionality validation check lists.
Employer shall review the sketches and checklists, adjudicated and store in a Secure File Share for configuration management and control.
The candidate will have Read access to the File Share.
Candidate shall assemble hardware per sketches and perform operational checkout of the assembled hardware.
Candidate shall build / learn to build cables using COTS components, such as D-sub and 38999 connectors.
Cable building involves soldering and stripping wire and working with small components.
Candidate must be comfortable working with sharp and high temperature tools.
Candidate shall reconfigure computer hardware when testing demands it.
This involves careful configuration changes of cable connections, adding and removing cards from server computers, and modifying cables when needed.
Candidate shall organize procurement efforts for COTS and custom hardware.
Procuring custom hardware involves coordinating with Responsible Engineers (REs), managers, and buyers.
Procurement requires careful attention to detail when working with large spreadsheets and regular updates to managers.
Required:
Degree and typical experience in project/design engineering:
Bachelor's degree with 2 or more years' experience.
The successful applicant must have strong communication skills and be capable of working in a multi-tasking environment while supporting multiple activities concurrently.
The ability to rapidly pick up new lingo in a new environment is highly valuable here.
The applicant must be capable of working with minimal supervision.

The applicant must be able to draw key data out of large engineering reports and diagrams.

A secret clearance is not required; however, candidate must be able to pass a background check.
This is a full-time 40-hour week Monday through Friday position located in Huntsville, AL.
Some travel may be required.
