Responsible for the performance of difficult and varied clerical work.
Takes and transcribes dictation at a working rate of speed.
Keeps complex clerical records and may perform office management details designated by a supervisor.
May prepare routine correspondence and mail it under personal signature of the supervisor.
The nature of the work is such that employees frequently have considerable independence of action in the disposition of routine work matters and in receiving complaints, giving information and other public relations work.
Work is only occasionally reviewed by supervisor.
Instructions on assignments are given through conference, although more important or unusual assignments may involve careful instruction and supervisory review.
Supervision may be exercised over a few employees assisting in routing details.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.
) General Clerical Takes and transcribes dictation.
Types correspondence and other material on general or technical subjects.
Independently composes and may sign the supervisor's name to correspondence following well-established precedents.
Takes and transcribes minutes of official meetings.
Keeps these records properly filed, indexed and up to date.
Record Keeping Keeps difficult, complex clerical and accounting records not requiring previous technical training.
Files office records, determining proper file designations to be used.
Secretarial/Public Relations Acts as secretary.
Independently meets the public, giving out information requiring some knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
Serves as representative of the supervisor as delegated in contacts with vendors, other employees, and the general public in connection with the operation of the department and in scheduling appointments.
Reports Makes up special reports, forms, and summaries at request of supervisor, involving independently checking a variety of records.
General Office Duties Operates bookkeeping, calculating, and other office machines incidental to other phases of the work.
Performs related work as required.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications Education and Experience Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:
Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in business practice, typing or word processing, and shorthand.
Experience in stenographic and clerical work preferably includes experience in a county office or as a legal secretary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; considerable knowledge of modern office appliances, practices and procedures, including knowledge of computer.
Skill in the rapid and accurate transcription of oral dictation.
Skill in the operation of a typewriter.
Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to keep complex clerical records and to prepare accurate reports from simple arithmetical or accounting information.
Ability to prepare effective correspondence on routine matters and to perform routine office management details without referral to a supervisor.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public and to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
